For the first time in the history of the country, all animals in Greece (whether stray or in a home) will have a prosecutor from today to deal exclusively with their rights.
After the recent law that was voted by the Greek Parliament, prosecutor Mrs Constantina Aggelopoulou will now be the Prosecutor against the killing and abuse of animals and other similar violations of the law.
Let's hope that the prosecutor will help to eliminate the cases of poisoning and torturing animals...
Stray animals phenomenon explodes in Greece of the economic crisis!
(ANSAmed) - ATHENS, JANUARY 20 - Stray animals become victims of economic and social crisis that plagues our country...
The number of abandoned animals in the streets grows rapidly, while lack of resources create huge difficulties n the efforts made by the municipalities and volunteers.
"The situation is completely out of control," says Christiana Kalogeropoulou, a volunteer at the non-profit organisation Stray.gr, who vents her frustration in the daily newspaper Kathimerini.
"All efforts made in the past to change people's attitudes and make sure that the state takes responsibility for the phenomenon of stray animals have been to no avail".
